Remembering is not just about looking back—it’s about continually building bridges between the past, the present, and the future. It is the storytelling and the rituals that honour the essence of those we’ve lost while reminding us of the values, lessons, and love they instilled in our lives. Through these stories and rituals, we find a way to grieve, to celebrate, and to ensure that even in loss the connections that define us remain unbroken.

The 30th day of the 3rd month 2017 our lives changed for ever. We considered our life to be a fairy tale. We shared quality family time, good friends, opportunities for adventure and good health. All that was suddenly shattered when the pain of living outweighed the fear of dying and our sweet Heidikins left us at age 33.

Time brings perspective. Time eases the pain. Time heals the heart. Time revives hope. Through time, we have learned to embrace life again.  And although Heidi has passed on, her memory forever stays. We remember how she smiled, and the joy she always shared. We miss her all the time and think of her every day. Her love filled the world and that love that will never fade.

The reality is that we will grieve forever. We will not ‘get over’ the loss of our beloved Heidi; we have learned to live without her. Our life has become a book without page numbers. The story goes on, but it sometimes feels out of order.  We have learned to embrace the pain and burn it as fuel on our journey. Living our best life, to honour Heidi’s final wish, is our canvas. Every day is an opportunity to paint with the colours of joy, love, and adventure. By embracing the art of remembering, we transform grief into a celebration of the enduring love that binds us to those we’ve lost.

When we see the flight of the hawk above, we know you rest among the angels, our dear sweet Heidi. We will listen for your whispers on the wings of the birds and we will smile through our tears.
